Sun

Psychological (Freud)
In dreams the sun can embody the father or an inner authority by whose light the ego both warms itself and fears being scorched. Its rising often mirrors a buried wish for recognition and the awakening of a creative vitality that had long lain hidden in the unconscious.
Oriental reading
In the tradition of Ibn Sirin the sun symbolizes the ruler, the father, or a person of high standing; a clear, gentle sun foretells power, justice, and good fortune. An eclipsed or scorching sun, by contrast, warns of hardship from those in authority or of fading honor.
European folk (dream-book)
By old folk belief, the sun in a dream is among the fairest of signs: rising bright and golden, it promises happiness in the house, good business, and recovery for the sick. Whoever sees it shining, says the dream-book, has glad days ahead and the favour of well-regarded folk. But if it darkens behind clouds or sets blood-red, the old omen warns of sorrow, illness, or the loss of a protector.
Common dream scenarios
Sunrise
A rising sun is a strong sign of new beginnings, hope, and the end of a dark phase. Traditionally it promises growing prosperity and the rise of an authority favorable to you; psychologically a new consciousness awakens, casting fresh light over your life.
Solar eclipse
A solar eclipse swallowing the light points in Ibn Sirin to affliction or illness of the father, ruler, or a father figure. Psychologically an inner authority you align yourself by darkens, a temporary loss of orientation and self-confidence.
Scorching, burning sun
A burning, mercilessly scorching sun that sears you turns the warming image into a threatening one: an authority or pressure from above becomes crushing instead of nourishing. Traditionally a hint of harshness from a powerful figure; psychologically a super-ego or paternal instance whose severity burns you.
Two suns in the sky
Two suns in the sky traditionally point to the rise of two rival authorities or a power conflict in which two mighty figures contend for standing at once. Psychologically you experience a split in inner guidance, perhaps between two father figures or two loyalties you cannot satisfy at the same time.
