The garden is an image of the cultivated inner life, where wishes grow, are pruned, and are tended; not seldom it also carries the erotic overtones of the desired body. Its condition, blooming or run wild, mirrors how attentively the psyche cares for its own stirrings or neglects them.
Oriental reading
In Oriental-Islamic interpretation the garden stands for happiness, piety, and the promise of paradise; a green, fruit-bearing garden foretells prosperity, offspring, or a virtuous spouse. A withered or neglected garden, by contrast, cautions against laxity in faith or in the conduct of one's life.
European folk (dream-book)
By old folk belief a garden in a dream is a mirror of your fortune: blooming green and laden with fruit, it promises prosperity, glad love and a blessed home. But a garden run wild and parched foretells poverty, neglect and lonely days. Whoever strolls within it in the dream has merry hours before him; whoever tends the beds and sows shall see what he sows come up honestly.

Lush green garden
A lush, blossoming green garden is the symbol's purest image of happiness: wellbeing, piety and an inner life that is full. In Oriental-Islamic reading it echoes the promise of paradise; psychologically it shows a soul where wishes and values, well tended, are coming into bloom.
Dried-up garden
A withered, dried-up garden inverts the image: something once alive is being neglected - hopes, faith or a relationship suffer from drought. Traditionally it warns of dwindling blessing; psychologically it calls you to water your inner life again before it dies off entirely.
Garden full of fruit
A garden laden with ripe fruit speaks of harvest: effort that finally pays off, prosperity and the reward of patient work. In tradition it promises provision and blessed offspring; psychologically you are reaping what you cultivated in yourself - it is time to enjoy the ripeness.
Overgrown garden
An overgrown garden choked with weeds shows an inner area long left unattended: tasks, feelings or talents running wild from neglect. Traditionally it urges order in your own life; psychologically it invites you to weed and prune anew, so that what is valuable regains room and light.
