Dubinska psihologija telefon prikazuje kao želju za vezom sa odsutnom, možda iznutra propuštanom osobom i čežnju da se bude saslušan. Beskrajno zvonjenje, prekinuta veza ili nemogućnost da se javi odražavaju poruku zaustavljenu između svesnog i nesvesnog.
