Dubinska psihologija ključ čita kao pristup odaji psihe koja je ostala zaključana, potisnutoj tajni ili još neproživljenoj mogućnosti. U klasičnom frojdovskom shvatanju, sprega ključa i brave nosi i otvoreno erotski prizvuk sjedinjenja.
Orijentalno tumačenje
U orijentalnom i islamskom tumačenju, ključ obećava olakšanje nakon nevolje, otvaranje zatvorenih vrata i sticanje znanja, položaja ili izdržavanja. Primiti ključ u snu često se čita kao pomoć u teškoj stvari i uspeh koji se približava.

Finding a key promises a solution suddenly within reach – the way out of a stuck situation that you unconsciously already carry within. In the Oriental reading it heralds relief after hardship and the opening of closed doors. Psychologically it signals a newly discovered insight or capacity that grants access to a part of life until now barred.
Losing a key
Losing a key mirrors the sense of having forfeited access to something important – an opportunity, a solution or control over a situation. Traditionally the dream warns of helplessness, blocked paths and delay. Psychologically it asks which inner door you have bolted, or which part of yourself you no longer dare to reach.
Opening a door with a key
Opening a door with the key is the image of a successful breakthrough – an obstacle yields, a new space of life opens up. In the Oriental tradition it promises success, clarity and the reaching of a long-awaited goal. In depth psychology you are entering a chamber of the soul that was locked: a repressed secret or a possibility now allowed into the light.
Key won't fit the lock
A key that won't fit the lock or won't turn embodies frustration: you seem to hold the means, yet access stays barred. Traditionally it points to vain effort, premature steps or a wrong approach to the solution. Psychologically it shows that the path you have chosen does not match the real problem – the true answer lies elsewhere.
