Knjiga ukazuje na potrebu da se čita i razume sopstveni život i može označavati zatvoreno poglavlje ili čuvanu tajnu duše. Otvaranje knjige ili traganje u njoj često odražava želju za samospoznajom i za odgovorima skrivenim u nesvesnom.
Orijentalno tumačenje
U orijentalno-islamskom tumačenju, knjiga predstavlja znanje, mudrost i sudbinu dosuđenu čoveku; primiti knjigu u desnu ruku smatra se dobrim znakom vodstva i poslova koji se dobro okončavaju. Zatvorena ili nečitljiva knjiga ukazuje na skriveno znanje ili ishod koji još nije otkriven.

In folk belief a book in a dream is a message from fate: to open it and read within foretells important news or a letter from afar. A fine new book promises honour and glad tidings, while a torn or dusty one is the omen of forgotten duties and an old quarrel that will be dragged back into the light.
