Eyes

Psychological (Freud)

Eyes point to inner seeing — to insight, awareness, and the way the dreamer perceives themselves and others. Clouded or lost vision can voice the fear of not wanting to recognize a truth, or of closing one's eyes to something.

Oriental reading

In the Oriental-Islamic tradition, the eyes often stand for faith and the light of guidance as well as for a person's dearest ones; clear sight foretells well-being, while going blind may be read as straying in faith or the loss of a loved one.

European folk (dream-book)

In the old dream-book the eyes are watch-windows: through them you spy who wishes you well and who ill. Bright, shining eyes foretell loyal friends and welcome news from afar, while dim or weeping eyes were taken by the folk as a sure sign of envy, slander, and whispered gossip behind your back. To be stared at by strange eyes warns that you will soon be watched and grudged by jealous neighbours.

Common dream scenarios

Going blind

Going blind in a dream often means the dreamer is refusing to see a truth they already sense deep down. In the Oriental-Islamic reading, loss of sight can warn of straying from the right path or of being misled by those close to you. Psychologically it mirrors a fear of losing direction and control over your own life.

Beautiful bright eyes

Clear, shining eyes in a dream are a good omen of inner peace, steadfast faith, and an alert mind. Tradition reads them as a sign of insight, guidance, and sometimes a joyful encounter. Psychologically they show the dreamer looking at life with clarity and self-confidence.

A third eye

A third eye or extra eyes in a dream point to awakening intuition and the sense of perceiving more than reason alone can grasp. Tradition reads it as a gift of inner vision, but sometimes also as the burden of seeing too much. It invites the dreamer to trust their own hunches.

Injured or bleeding eye

An injured or bleeding eye in a dream speaks of a deep wound to one's perception — something has painfully clouded the dreamer's view of the world. In tradition it can point to loss touching faith, family, or property. Psychologically it signals an emotional injury that makes clear sight difficult.
