Στη βαθυψυχολογία το φίδι εκπροσωπεί συχνά τις απωθημένες ορμές και τη σεξουαλικότητα, ενώ η αλλαγή του δέρματός του σηματοδοτεί μια εσωτερική μεταμόρφωση. Μπορεί επίσης να ενσαρκώνει έναν κρυμμένο φόβο ή μια σύγκρουση που ο ονειρευόμενος δεν έχει ακόμη αντιμετωπίσει ανοιχτά.
Ανατολίτικη ερμηνεία
Στην ανατολίτικη και ισλαμική παράδοση του Ιμπν Σιρίν, το φίδι σημαίνει συνήθως έναν κρυμμένο εχθρό ή έναν φθονερό άνθρωπο κοντά σου. Όποιος το σκοτώνει, λέγεται ότι αποκτά το πάνω χέρι έναντι ενός αντιπάλου.
Λαϊκή (ονειροκρίτης)

If it bites, the old folk warn of betrayal by one whom you have trusted; if it merely glides silently near, it foretells gossip and false tongues close at hand. But to slay the snake means you will gain the upper hand over your adversary and escape the danger.

A snake in the house, after Ibn Sirin, points to an enemy or envier within one's own home, often someone from the close family circle. Psychologically the house mirrors the soul: a repressed drive or hidden conflict has nested in the innermost living space and demands attention.
