Ψυχολογική (Φρόυντ)
Το πουλί ενσαρκώνει συχνά τη λαχτάρα της ψυχής να ανυψωθεί πάνω από τους εσωτερικούς της περιορισμούς και μπορεί να καθρεφτίζει μια απωθημένη επιθυμία για ελευθερία και αυτοπραγμάτωση. Στη βαθυψυχολογία η πτήση του εκπροσωπεί επίσης τις ανυψούμενες σκέψεις, τις επιθυμίες και μια εσωτερική παρόρμηση φυγής που αναζητά έκφραση.
Ανατολίτικη ερμηνεία
Στην ανατολίτικη και ισλαμική ονειροκριτική, στην παράδοση του Ιμπν Σιρίν, το πουλί είναι αγγελιοφόρος: ένα όμορφο πουλί που κελαηδά προαναγγέλλει καλά νέα, ταξίδι ή υπόληψη, ενώ ένα φυλακισμένο ή άρρωστο πουλί μπορεί να παραπέμπει σε υποθέσεις που τέλμα. Κατά την παράδοση ερμηνεύεται επίσης συχνά ως σύμβολο του ίδιου του ανθρώπου και του πεπρωμένου του.
Λαϊκή (ονειροκρίτης)
In the old dream-book the bird is a messenger: to see one fly merrily or sing foretells glad news or a letter from afar drawing near. A bird that alights on the roof or windowsill betokens a coming visitor, while a dead or caged bird counsels caution and heralds sorrow. Birds soaring high promise a rise in fortune; those flying low, that your plans must wait.

White bird
A white bird is, in the tradition of Ibn Sirin, a pure messenger: glad tidings, a peaceful conscience, and an honest person drawing near. Psychologically it embodies the purified part of your soul, inviting you toward clarity and reconciliation.
Bird in a cage
A caged bird points to bound possibilities – a talent, a love, or a longing for freedom held back by duty or fear. In depth psychology it is your own self behind self-made bars, crying out for expression and open space.
Bird flying
A bird soaring freely promises, in Oriental interpretation, travel, ascent, and the success of a long-cherished plan. Psychologically it shows that your soul is rising above an inner narrowness and gaining a new, wider view.
Dead bird
A dead bird in tradition heralds a disappointed hope or news that never arrives – the end of an expectation. Emotionally it mirrors a longing for freedom that has just fallen silent, inviting you to gently revive it.
