Στη βαθυψυχολογία ο σκύλος ενσαρκώνει συχνά τα πιστά, ενστικτώδη μέρη της φύσης μας και την ανάγκη για εγγύτητα και αφοσίωση. Όταν γρυλίζει ή δαγκώνει, μπορεί να καθρεφτίζει απωθημένη επιθετικότητα ή μια παρόρμηση που βιώνεται ως απειλητική.
Ανατολίτικη ερμηνεία
Στην παράδοση του Ιμπν Σιρίν, ο σκύλος σημαίνει συχνά έναν άνθρωπο χαμηλής υπόληψης, έναν υπηρέτη ή έναν επίμονο αντίπαλο. Ένας φιλικός σκύλος, ωστόσο, μπορεί να σημαίνει έναν πιστό προστάτη ή έναν αφοσιωμένο φύλακα.

In old folk belief the dog in a dream stands for a faithful friend and protector: a friendly, tail-wagging dog foretells a loyal companion and shelter from harm. To hear it growl or bark, however, warns of a quarrel or a hidden enemy, and a bite heralds betrayal by someone close. Howling dogs have ever been held ill-boding omens that call for watchfulness.

Friendly dog
A friendly, affectionate dog promises a faithful friend and a dependable ally in hard times. Psychologically it mirrors a healthy bond with your own instinctual nature - trust, warmth, and the need for genuine closeness.
