Psihološki (Frojd)
U dubinskoj psihologiji vuk često utelovljuje neukroćene nagonske sile i drevnu agresiju kojih se sanjar plaši ili koje potiskuje u sebi. Jednako može da odražava i figuru iz spoljašnjeg sveta doživljenu kao preteću, na koju se projektuju odvojeni unutrašnji porivi.
Orijentalno tumačenje
U tumačenju snova po Ibn Sirinu vuk često stoji za podmuklog, gramzivog neprijatelja, lopova ili nepravednog moćnika. Za onoga ko savlada vuka kaže se da pobeđuje protivnika, dok napad vuka opominje sanjara da se čuva lukavstva i izdaje.
