Majka u snu često utelovljuje najraniju vezu i čežnju za sigurnošću, ali jednako može da odražava i nesvesni osećaj krivice ili želju za otcepljenjem. U dubinskoj psihologiji ona stoji za izvor savesti i za onaj unutrašnji deo nas koji neguje i štiti, ali ponekad i drži previše čvrsto.
Orijentalno tumačenje
U orijentalno-islamskom tumačenju snova majka je znak blagoslova, opskrbe i otklanjanja briga; videti je često obećava utehu, čast i izlaz iz nevolje. Ugledati preminulu majku često se tumači kao poziv na molitvu i kao dobar predznak milosti.
