Riba koja izranja iz dubina vode tumači se u dubinskoj psihologiji kao slika nesvesnih sadržaja koji teže da se uzdignu u svest. Jednako može da simbolizuje plodne stvaralačke snage ili životnu temu u klijanju koja se još potajno meškolji.
Orijentalno tumačenje
U tradiciji Ibn Sirina riba je najčešće znak opskrbe i izdržavanja (rizk): sveža riba obećava dobit, obilje i blagosloveno izdržavanje. Velik ili bogat ulov može da ukaže na srećan brak ili neočekivani blagoslov, dok pokvarena riba nagoveštava brigu.

By old folk belief, to dream of a fish foretells that tidings or an unexpected visitor are on their way to the house. A lively fish darting in clear water promises near good fortune and joyful news, while a dead or rotten fish warns of vexation and a hope that comes to nothing. To see fish being caught, the old people say, heralds good days and a well-laden table ahead.
