В традиции Ибн Сирина тихий плач без причитаний часто служит предвестником утешения, облегчения и грядущей радости. Громкое же стенание и вопль традиционно толкуются как предостережение о печали или беде.

By the old dream-book, tears turn to their opposite: to weep in your sleep foretells unlooked-for luck or glad tidings come the morning. But to hear another sob without weeping yourself is an omen to guard against gossip and the loose tongues of neighbours. Tears that fall quietly in the dark are read as a coming reconciliation after a long quarrel.

Loud sobbing accompanied by wailing is read more cautiously in tradition: it can point to grief, ill tidings or a hard trial ahead. Emotionally the unrestrained outburst shows that a pain has crossed the threshold of what you can contain and demands to be acknowledged.
Crying over someone who has died
Weeping over the dead often signals less raw grief than an unresolved bond or words left unsaid; tradition in places reads it as the departed asking for prayer. Psychologically the dream completes a farewell that waking life never finished.
Crying tears of joy
Tears of joy in a dream count as a doubly good omen: they herald a fulfilment so large it overflows the vessel. Emotionally this dream marks the moment you finally allow yourself to truly receive a long-awaited happiness.
