Η τελετουργική πλύση στο όνειρο μπορεί να εκφράζει τη βαθιά επιθυμία να ελευθερωθεί κανείς από ενοχή, ντροπή ή απωθημένες ορμές και να κάνει ένα νέο ψυχικό ξεκίνημα. Καθρεφτίζει συχνά μια ανάγκη για αγνότητα και εξιλέωση, στην οποία η συνείδηση αναζητά ανακούφιση και μια καθαρή εσωτερική κατάσταση.
Ανατολίτικη ερμηνεία
Στην ανατολίτικη-ισλαμική παράδοση, η τελετουργική πλύση στο όνειρο είναι σημάδι μετάνοιας, της συγχώρεσης των αμαρτιών και της απελευθέρωσης από τις έγνοιες. Σύμφωνα με τον Ιμπν Σιρίν, ιδίως όταν εκτελείται πλήρως, υπόσχεται την εκπλήρωση των επιθυμιών, την ανάρρωση και ένα ευλογημένο νέο ξεκίνημα στις υποθέσεις.
Λαϊκή (ονειροκρίτης)
In the old folk dream-books, to wash oneself foretells a turning of fortune: he who bathes in clear water shall soon be freed from worry, slander, or quarrel, and an ill thing is rinsed from him as dust from cloth. But murky or icy water is an omen of false friends and of gossip that creeps behind one's back. To wash the hands is to shed a debt or be loosed from a burdensome obligation.

Washing with clear, flowing water is held in the Oriental-Islamic tradition to be a sure sign of sincere repentance and forgiven guilt, heralding a pure new chapter. Psychologically, the clarity of the water shows the soul is ready to let go of old burdens and start afresh with a clean conscience.
Washing with dirty water
Washing with murky or dirty water points to a repentance that lacks sincerity, or a vain attempt to cleanse oneself by unsuitable means. It warns the dreamer not to gloss over the true source of inner unrest but to name it honestly.
Ablution before prayer
Ritual washing in preparation for prayer heralds the fulfillment of a sincere request and divine support in an undertaking that lies ahead. It mirrors an inner readiness to compose oneself and meet an important task purified and with a clean heart.
Full-body bathing (Ghusl)
A full-body ritual bath in a dream promises a deep, total renewal: the laying down of a heavy burden, recovery from illness, or release from a long-standing situation of guilt or shame. It points to a radical fresh start that takes hold of the whole person, not merely one part of life.
