Obredno pranje u snu može izražavati duboku želju da se čovek oslobodi krivice, stida ili potisnutih poriva i da duševno krene iznova. Često odražava potrebu za čistotom i okajanjem, u kojoj savest teži rasterećenju i bistrom unutrašnjem stanju.

U orijentalno-islamskoj tradiciji, obredno pranje u snu znak je pokajanja, oproštaja greha i oslobođenja od briga. Prema Ibn Sirinu, naročito kada se izvrši potpuno, ono obećava ispunjenje želja, ozdravljenje i blagoslovljen novi početak u poslovima.
