Глубинная психология ставит зеркало перед видящим сон, сталкивая его с собственным образом «я» и с напряжением между идеальным «я» и реальной личностью. Искажённое, мутное или незнакомое отражение выдаёт нарциссическую неуверенность или отвергнутую часть, что рвётся выйти на свет.
Восточное толкование
В восточном и исламском толковании зеркало часто означает состояние внутреннего мира человека, его доброе имя, а равно супругу, дитя или поворот в обстоятельствах. Ясный образ предвещает ясность и доброе имя, тогда как разбитое зеркало читается как разлука, болезнь или превратность судьбы.
