В восточно-исламском толковании снов, в духе Ибн Сирина, нож обычно означает силу, защиту и верного помощника или слугу. Острый, чистый нож предвещает отстаивание прав и обретение власти, тогда как тупой или сломанный указывает на слабость в споре.

Folk belief holds the knife in a dream to be a sign of strife: it foretells quarrel, dispute and parting, for a knife 'cuts friendship in two.' A bright, sharp blade warns of an open exchange of words or a treacherous foe; a rusty or blunt one of vexation within the family. To give a knife as a gift has long been an ill omen that severs a bond, and so one lays a coin beside it to turn the mischief away.

Stabbing someone surfaces pent-up rage or the wish to sever a relationship outright. The old teaching warns of a quarrel in which your words turn into blades, while depth psychology reads it as permission to finally face a repressed aggression rather than act it out.
