Pantofii întruchipează ținuta cu care omul pășește prin viață și gata de a porni pe propriul drum; pantofii noi pot oglindi intrarea într-un rol neobișnuit. În psihologia profunzimilor, ei poartă uneori și un înțeles erotic voalat, simbolizând dorința și unirea.
Interpretare orientală
În tâlcuirea oriental-islamică, pantofii stau adesea pentru călătorie, pentru un soț ori tovarăș de viață și pentru starea ce sprijină pe om; pantofii noi și potriviți făgăduiesc o legătură bună sau o pornire izbutită. A pierde un pantof avertizează de despărțire, pierdere ori de eșuarea unei întreprinderi, după cum a însemnat Ibn Sirin.
