Psihologia profunzimilor zugrăvește telefonul ca dorința de legătură cu o persoană absentă, poate lăuntric dorită, și ca dorul de a fi auzit. Un sunat fără sfârșit, o legătură întreruptă ori neputința de a răspunde oglindesc o solie împotmolită între conștient și inconștient.
Interpretare orientală
În tâlcuirea orientală și islamică, telefonul vestește vești și știri, o legătură cu cei depărtați și un cuvânt ce sosește curând. O convorbire limpede făgăduiește vești bune și împăcare, în vreme ce o legătură întreruptă ori plină de pârâituri se citește ca neînțelegere sau ca un răspuns ce nu mai vine.

In folk reckoning the telephone in a dream is a messenger: its ringing announces news already on its way, often from one of whom you have just been thinking. To be unable to answer, or to hear a dead line, foretells by old belief a falling-out or a chance let slip. A clear conversation, by contrast, promises a reconciliation soon to come and good tidings from afar.

Losing your phone awakens the fear of being cut off from important people or from the world. Tradition warns of a broken contact or a missed message. Psychologically the dream asks whether you have lost touch with someone, or with yourself.
