A cârmui o mașină întruchipează măsura de control pe care eul crede că o are asupra propriului drum și asupra instinctelor lăuntrice. Frânele care cedează, pierderea controlului ori un străin la volan pot trăda un simțământ reprimat de neputință sau o dorință de a preda altcuiva răspunderea.
Interpretare orientală
În înțelegerea orientală, o mașină bine cârmuită arată spre atingerea țelurilor, înălțarea în rang și un drum rânduit prin viață. Un accident ori un vehicul scăpat de sub control, dimpotrivă, avertizează împotriva grabei într-o pricină ce cere mai multă chibzuință.

In old folk-belief, steering a wagon in a dream points to the running of your own fate and to a journey or message soon to reach the house. Drive on smooth and sure, and a venture will end well; but if the wagon breaks or you stray from the road, the old folk foretell an unlooked-for hindrance or a false friend at the wheel of your fortune. A stranger driving warns that others would steer your luck against your will.

Driving in reverse suggests you are moving backwards in some matter rather than ahead, be it a relationship, a project or an old chapter. Traditionally it counsels retreat from a wrong step; psychologically it describes clinging to what ought to be behind you.
Crashing the car
A crash in a dream rarely foretells a literal accident; it stages the feared collision of a plan with reality. Tradition reads it as a warning against haste; psychologically it condenses the fear that a chosen course will end in disaster and calls for a pause.
