Casa este socotită cel mai cuprinzător simbol al sinelui: încăperile ei se potrivesc cu straturile sufletului, de la odaia luminoasă a conștiinței până la pivnița reprimatului. Starea casei oglindește starea lăuntrică, iar cercetarea unor încăperi necunoscute arată spre părți ascunse ale propriei persoane a visătorului.
Interpretare orientală
În tâlcuirea orientală a viselor, casa stă pentru starea, familia și simțământul de siguranță al omului, iar uneori pentru soție ori pentru propriul trup; o casă spațioasă și bine luminată făgăduiește siguranță, binecuvântare și bunăstare. Dimpotrivă, o casă în ruină ori care se prăbușește avertizează de griji, pierdere sau de o zguduire a rânduielii căminului.

In folk belief the house is the mirror of one's own fortune and family: a bright, well-built house in a dream promises safety, plenty, and concord among one's kin. To build or enter a new house heralds a turn for the better, while a burning, collapsing, or deserted house warns by old superstition of sickness, discord, or loss within the home. An open door means guests and good tidings, but a locked one a hidden care.
