Ψυχολογική (Φρόυντ)
Το σπίτι θεωρείται το πιο περιεκτικό σύμβολο του εαυτού: τα δωμάτιά του αντιστοιχούν στα στρώματα της ψυχής, από το φωτεινό σαλόνι της συνείδησης ως το κελάρι του απωθημένου. Η κατάσταση του σπιτιού καθρεφτίζει την εσωτερική κατάσταση, και η εξερεύνηση άγνωστων δωματίων παραπέμπει σε κρυμμένα κομμάτια του ίδιου του προσώπου του ονειρευόμενου.
Ανατολίτικη ερμηνεία
Στην ανατολίτικη ονειροκριτική, το σπίτι συμβολίζει την κατάσταση, την οικογένεια και την αίσθηση ασφάλειας ενός ανθρώπου, και ενίοτε τη σύζυγο ή το ίδιο το σώμα· ένα ευρύχωρο, καλοφωτισμένο σπίτι υπόσχεται ασφάλεια, ευλογία και ευημερία. Ένα ερειπωμένο ή ετοιμόρροπο σπίτι, αντίθετα, προειδοποιεί για έγνοιες, απώλεια ή αναστάτωση στην τάξη του σπιτικού.
Λαϊκή (ονειροκρίτης)
In folk belief the house is the mirror of one's own fortune and family: a bright, well-built house in a dream promises safety, plenty, and concord among one's kin. To build or enter a new house heralds a turn for the better, while a burning, collapsing, or deserted house warns by old superstition of sickness, discord, or loss within the home. An open door means guests and good tidings, but a locked one a hidden care.

A new house promises a fresh chapter of life, grown security and an enlarged room of the self. It shows that you are making new inner territory livable and laying a firmer foundation. In Oriental terms it signals an improvement of circumstances, at times marriage or a growing family.

An old or abandoned house points to past chapters of life, buried memories or a part of yourself you have neglected. The empty rooms show where life once was and silence now reigns. The dream invites you to honor what is old before you release it or bring it back to life.
House on fire
A burning house points to a fierce inner upheaval, pent-up anger or a crisis that shakes your security. The fire can destroy and purify at once, so that transformation rises out of the crisis. Traditionally the dream warns of conflict within the family, yet it can also announce a powerful new beginning.
Discovering unknown rooms
Discovering unknown rooms in your house mirrors hidden capacities, talents or emotional spaces of which you were unaware. The house of the self is larger than you thought, inviting you to expand. The dream announces inner growth and new possibilities already waiting within you.
