To pare your nails in a dream was said to cut away petty troubles and to mend the peace with kinfolk.

Dirty fingernails
Dirty or blackened nails in the traditional reading point to worries about reputation, shady dealings, or a guilty conscience. Psychologically they reveal shame over something you want to hide from others. The dream invites you to examine your own 'hands' and motives honestly.
